Peter Drake’s Travellers ‘Tails’

Peter Drake’s Travellers ‘Tails’

7.30pm, Thursday 7th November 2019 at Brockholes Village Hall

Peter Drake, MBE, reveals the whacky, wonderful and humorous encounters from his 40 years of expeditions and travels to all corners of the world.

From the quirks of people, animals, food, buildings and even road signs in many parts of the world, Peter takes us from the Himalayas to the Grand Canyon, from some of the world’s most luxurious ocean liners to the deserts of Africa. We go from staying in 5 star hotels to sleeping on the ground in the bush. The aim is always to get home in one piece!!

Ursu – Never Give Up On a Dog

7.30pm, Wednesday 23rd October at Brockholes Village Hall

Meet Ursu – a Romanian Street Dog thought to be too Mentally Damaged to ever Home.

Kirkburton resident Sarah Napier tells the story of how she felt compelled to save Ursu, a dog that had survived as a stray on the streets of Bucharest before being caught and thrown into one of Romania’s notorious ‘kill shelters’ where he miraculously survived for over four years.

Sarah will demonstrate how Ursu, once unapproachable and aggressive, has become the gentle dog that he is today.

Ursu’s story was published as a paperback in 2018 and is receiving 5* reviews and household name endorsements, including Dogs Monthly. Copies of the book, priced £7.99, will be available, with sales contributing towards the charity that helped save Ursu and bring him back to the UK.

Please join us to discover how with patience and commitment a mistreated dog will respond positively to become a happy and much loved member of the family. Ursu is living proof.

Light refreshments served.

‘Les’s Dance’ Evenings

Monthly social dance sessions organised by Brockholes residents, Les and Pauline Bailey. The evenings attract an average of 26 people and comprise popular sequence, ballroom and latin dances to song and instrumental music. The popularity of these evenings has grown by word of mouth and they are suitable for those with a reasonable command of the basic dance steps.

Les said, “This has become a social event for those who love to dance and enjoy a friendly and relaxing evening. We ensure there are a range of dances to suit all tastes including waltz, tango, swing, quickstep and even six styles of rumba. For those who have been tempted by the popularity of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ this is a chance to dance, meet friends and have a good time”.

The admission charge is £4 and people can bring their own drinks.

For further information contact Les Bailey, Tel: 01484 662398.
